Soap VS Sanitizer: Useful Facts #1
There's a on going battle as to what works better; soap and water or hand sanitizer and the answer is both if used properly. Soap has been the go to for a long time...well...like...forever really. In perspective of soap's history, hand sanitizer is "future tech", convenient, and sometimes claimed to be a better solution for hygienic needs. This post will bring the bout to an end! Given the current times with the scare of COVID-19 (corona virus) I feel this can be pretty relevant and useful information.
WELCOME TO MY EXPERIMENT! I am trying something new; "Useful Facts". These will be a series of random facts and very brief posts (hopefully). I hope you find them enjoyable.
So what's better?
In short, although it may be subjective, soap and water. The reason being is that soap and water, removes debris, oils, germs, viruses, microbes, and other contaminants that can be harmful. This is not to be confused with actually killing the germs, viruses, microbes. Additionally hand sanitize is proven not to clean under the finger nails.
The importance of soap and water in comparison? Think about it; often times do you see a surgeon prepping using sanitizer before operating? Or a doctor using sanitizer while examining you? I would hope not.
So why and when to use hand sanitizer?
Whenever soap is not available. Convenience is not a good practice to use sanitizer although tempting. While it kills germs and the likes, it cannot effectively remove everything else which would still leave your hands dirty.
Why use it?
Because it's all you got at the time. When your in a social setting or away from a sink it's better than nothing. It is better to be germ free and hygienic than to spread a cold, flue, or worse
When should I use it?
After shaking hands, opening a door, or whenever you feel the need arises. However my suggestion, once you get to a sink don't hesitate to soap up and rinse.
