What Is There To Be Thankful For During Thanksgiving 2020

2020 has been a CRAZY year! What can we possibly be thankful for? (Quick Post)

For a year of uncertainty and for many, despair, it is hard to find things to be thankful for this year. With COVID-19, politics, protests, and violence it is hard to even imagine some positivity. At the end of the day, there is a lot we can be thankful for but, for some of us we have to dig deep and shovel the bad to the side. Hopefully, my list of what I'm thankful for can help you reflect on what you can be thankful for! 😉

Lets start with the worst of it COVID-19

When we put aside the beliefs, anger, stress, illness, and death there are a few things to be thankful for from this experience. Here's a list!

  1. Work from home: Some of us are fortunate enough to be working from home. For some, like myself, this is something I've always looked into and something I'm finally happy to be doing. It isn't as easy as testimonials make it out to be, but I was happy to experience it and be home with my family, which brings me to my next point.
  2. Being home with the family: For some of us who have children this is great! I get to see my wife and kids every day. Although sometimes they create more stress than I need, I'm super happy to see them safe and about in general. An occasional interrupting hug never hurts during a stressful work day! 😉
  3. People are learning: Well, hopefully! I cannot count the times I've left the stall in a public restroom and see people who skip the sink and not wash their hands. I can only assume, from fear or necessity, that people are now cleaner.
  4. I don't get sick: Other than allergies and minor food poisoning, I have not gotten sick this year. I have been taking the protective guidelines of the pandemic very seriously such as wearing a mask and cleaning up. As a result, I have not gotten the flu, a cold, or anything similar to those ailments for 8+ months. At all! Nada! That is something to be super thankful about.

Unemployment is bad, but could be worse

I would have to say, it is pretty bad. Although debatable, I do see the government is making some effort to help with renters, bonuses to unemployment, and stimulus checks. In my lifetime, I would have never thought I would see any of this, so I am thankful, despite how little, that it does exist and effort was made.

I am also seeing, especially now, that big business and franchises are not failing and are growing with e-commerce despite the rumors and theories out there.  There is a lot of "now hiring" signs, work-from-home positions, and a HUGE opportunity for independently contracted delivery services.

The world hasn't ended, life goes on

It may seem to some that we're in the end of times and the world as we know it is ending. I'm thankful that this isn't the case! We have to look deeper and we have to look at the bigger picture. We aren't at war, the nukes aren't dropping, and aliens or Godzilla hasn't come 😝! People still care about one another, people are still getting married, and babies are still being born.

Another thing to consider, the planet hasn't become a dystopian wasteland where only the "preppers" and toilet paper hoarders are surviving. We, as humans, do what we do best, adapt and evolve. Adults and children alike are still going to school everywhere in the world and even though unemployment is at an all time low, people are still working. We find ways!

There is more time now!

I'm thankful that we have more time now. Well...some of us. In my case, I want to stay away from politics and the pandemic, so "going out" wasn't nearly as common as it was before. Being at home I get to spend a lot more time with my family, blogging, learning new things, home projects, and teaching myself computer programming. If you're a regular reader, it's been obvious as I've gone from MAYBE one every two weeks to almost every week blogging. HAHA!

Maybe we all need to take this opportunity to better ourselves as people. Be thankful for the extra time we have and for the small things. Focus on what we got rather than what we don't have.
