My Top 5 Christmas Movies!
It's cold, a good time for hot cocoa and ideal for snuggling up without excuses! Gather your kids, your dog, your favorite Snuggie and get ready to dust off those Christmas movies. Ah, but there are so many to choose from! Hopefully I can provide some good recommendations to get you started!
Again, like my Halloween list, the scale I've tipped these movies on are based mostly on appropriateness and fun, not entirely best to worst.
1. Klaus (Rated PG) *Ages 5+

The movie to me feels like Disney's the Emperor's new groove and MGM's Adams family were best friends and met up for a Christmas party.
Klaus is a reimaged story of how Santa Claus came to be. It has a few parts of the story explaining some of the stories that make Santa, Santa. Some of these, without spoiling too much would be the reindeer flying, coal in the stocking, down the chimney, and so on!
The movie can be a little violent at first, it has its "aaawww" moments, and an overall happy ending. It's fun for the whole family and I enjoy it as a man-child every time.
This is an all time Christmas favorite. You can't go wrong with any of the videos except for maybe 3 or 4, but to be honest, I watched 3 for the first time and thought it was ok. Debatable for some I guess. 😝
I started my kids on Nightmare Before Christmas just because I started early on it too; and look how I turned out! 🤔 Kidding aside, I think this movie is a great transition from Halloween to Christmas! With costumes, sweets, and gifts, who can go wrong?
Another one of my favorite films franchises. The movies may be more suitable for an older audience but overall you get to see elves and go on an adventure with the newly "hired" Santa Claus ...by contract 😉. Toward the end of the season you meet other icons like the tooth fairy, father time, and mother nature.

2. The Home Alone Franchise (Rated PG) *Ages 7 to 9+

These movies are continuous fun and action. I remember watching these movies at a very young age but, watching them again and being a father, I'm surprised my parents let me watch it. I would recommend maybe starting the kiddos on this one at age 7 to 9 just because there's a good amount of violence, language, and sexual innuendo. Also, a few suggestions that Santa isn't real, ridiculous thought!

3. Elf (Rated PG) *Ages between 6 and 7+

Elf is Christmas gold and who better to deliver the gold than an overly excited adopted elf, Will Farrell.
Elf in short is a fun story about how a man who thinks he's a legitimate elf saves Christmas.
I would recommend an older crowd as there may be some kissing, and use of substances (alcohol), and very mild swearing. Oh, and the other sad notion that parents are behind the beard. Not Buddy though! He and I have a lot in common in knowing the big man's out there!

4. The Nightmare Before Christmas (Rated PG) *Ages between 5 and 7+

Although not fully a Halloween movie, nor a Christmas movie, it is debatable to be the best of both. My opinion, why not the best of both? Can you say double holiday feature? With the scary factor of this movie I would recommend ages around 7 years old but I started my kiddos on this when they were 4 or 5.

5. The Santa Clause Franchise (Rated PG) 7 to 9+

I would say a good starting age for this movie would be between 7-ish and 9+ due to some adult situations like divorce, parents fighting, "death" ...sort of, and yet again, the notion that Santa isn't real? Strange how Christmas movies push this 🤔.

Uhm, yeah. Not a kids movie. But for the adults it is one of the greatest action movies out there. Not only that, but it is a Christmas classic to many and it just so happens to take place on Christmas or in some, the winter, EEHHHH close enough! Once the kids are asleep throw it on and binge watch 😉.
BONUS
Not a stir or a whine, a scream or a pout. "GO TO SLEEP, GO TO SLEEP, or I'll tell Santa, what this is all about!" It's Christmas eve and the kids are finally asleep. It's now the parents time to dig in and take a peep. Now it's coffee stirs or some wine, some cheese and salami. It's time mom and dad to watch something exciting!
What better a Christmas classic, one can't forget! But a balding man with a machine gun, barefoot but not desperate! Die Hard the franchise, join us Santa, don't fret!
Die Hard Franchise (Rate R) 18+

Bruce Willis will deliver a whole lot of presents for his terrorists friends straight from his MP5! "YIPPIE KI YAY" and marry Christmas!
